Baby, it's cold outside!

Stephen and I have been coming to Harrietville for a couple of years now, usually in summer and autumn. This year we thought we might like to experience winter. The frost this morning was the heaviest I think I have ever seen. Even though the sun was out all day and the sky very clear and brilliant blue, in some areas the ice did not thaw. The temperature got down to about -6 degrees overnight. Fortunately the cottage is warm and very comfortable.

The Late Nights Begin

It is that time of year again. Le Tour de France has begun. Stephen and I have watched le tour religiously for 18 plus years. Last year was just sensational with Cadel Evans, an Aussie, actually winning the general classification. We will watch with interest again this year hoping that Cadel can win back to back tours before going on to win a gold medal in London at the upcoming Olympics. Also riding this year will be the first Australian team - Orica GreenEDGE. While we will be cheering loudly for the new Aussie team and hoping like hell that Matt Goss can win a stage, Cadel is king!

 

It will also be interesting for us to watch as the peloton passes through a number of places that we visited during our wonderful trip to France in September/October last year. It only seems like yesterday that we were sitting here watching le tour and talking excitedly about our approaching trip.

I Just Love a New Class

I have found Shimelle Laine's weekly Glitter Girl videos (posted on 2Peas) very entertaining so I decided that I would try one of her classes. It starts today!!!

Moving into the Shed

Finally I have been able to move some things into the shed. In the week after Stawell, Lach and Cal worked hard to get the roof on the shed. Mick Tomlinson (plumber) finished off the roof by installing the flashing, which made the shed waterproof. Stephen and I invested in a good quality storage system which was very easy to put together and.........finally I was able to get all the boxes out of the study, spare bedroom and bathroom.

As you can see from the photos below there is still a lot to be done before we get our pergola area and backyard back in order.

Autumn in Harrietville

Stephen and I had a lovely five day break in Harrietville - 25th to 29th April. We had wanted to spend some time during Autumn in and around Bright and Harrietville. Stephen spent time fishing and I was able to continue working on our European vacation album. For some time Stephen and I have been thinking about trying to smoke trout. We borrowed a Cobb from Cameron and Stephen did a bit of research in regards to the best method and type of smoking chips to use, etc. He caught three nice sized fish the first coupe of days and on the Friday morning he set about getting the job done. The result was absolutely superb. We had a banquet for lunch and more than enough left for dinner.

The colours of the Autumn leaves were also just spectacular. You see richer, more intense coloured leaves in the alpine areas were the temperatures are so much cooler.

Meeting Ashton

It was great to meet the newest edition to the Joslin clan. Felicity gave birth to Ashton Leigh Budworth Miller on 8th April 2012 - Easter Sunday. He was a healthy 8lbs 14ozs born. Samara is a very proud big sister. Stephen and I spent a lovely wet Saturday afternoon giving Ashton lots of cuddles and reading and playing with Samara.
